Hot Club de Norvège was established when the acoustic
gypsy swing revival swept over Europe in the 1970s. Their starting
point was the recordings of Django Reinhardt and Le Quintette
du Hot Club de France, mingled with gypsy folklore, waltzes
and more modern jazz. Developing their own unique sound, they
continue to expand on contemporary expressions of gypsy jazz.
Worldwide touring has enabled them to perform with all the stars
of gypsy swing, having produced CDs with several hundred of
the foremost musicians in the history of the genre, as well
as releasing nearly 20 CDs of their own on their record label,
Hot Club Records®. Jon Larsen, a major driving force behind
the gypsy jazz revival and an exceptional guitarist in his own
right, heads Hot Club de Norvège with Finn Hauge on violin
and harmonica, Per Frydenlund on guitar, and Svein Aarbostad
on bass. In addition to their relentless touring, the band also
arranges an annual Django Reinhardt Festival in Oslo, Norway,
which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2004.
