The Biel Ballester Trio (BBT) swings us from 1930s Paris to present-day Barcelona, the bandleader's adopted home. Born in Las Islas Baleares off the eastern coast of Spain, Biel Ballester expands on gypsy jazz made popular nearly three quarters of a century ago in France by his idol, Django Reinhardt. The classically trained guitarist pays his respect here on five Reinhardt classics in honor of the legendary musician's passing fifty years ago, but asserts his own voice in seven original instrumentals. With dashing speed and fluidity, the notes spring from Biel's guitar as if they were dancing across the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea and echoing influences from his birthplace in Mallorca. Discover the passion of what can only be described as the BBT's unique style of "Catalan Swing."
